Kalama Church of the Nazarene

While the Western group was founded in Los Angeles California, 1895, The Kalama Church of the Nazarene was established in 1908. It was located at 156 Elm Street in the town of Kalama. It was the church until 1972 and was led by Reverand Lyman Salisbury. The building is still there at 156 Elm Street but is rented out for many different functions. Back in around 1969, the church made the bold move to purchase 10 acres on Cloverdale Road in Kalama, southeast of downtown at 501 Cloverdale Road, which is where we are located today. Before being built the church went through a change in reverends, Don Adams took over as the reverend which also had a builder’s license and they started constructing the church and the Parsonage. Under the supervision of Reverend Adams, the church building was built mainly by members of the church due their special trades of work, pipe fitters, electricians, carpenters, etc. It took around 2 years to build the main building and was opened for church services in 1972. Reverend Adams and family lived in the basement of the parsonage while it was being completed. The parsonage is currently going to be under construction and will become the offices of the church upstairs and the basement will hold an apartment.
