Unboxing the Book of Hebrews

Sermon Series picking up on Chapter 7

  • Covenants & Contracts / Hebrews Chapter 7

Have you ever felt overlooked as someone else took credit for what you have done? How did you sort that out in your heart? If you consider your relationship with Jesus, is it in terms of a Contracted Relationship or a Covenant Relationship?

We dive into Hebrews 7 by looking deeper into Genesis 14 with Abram’s interactions Melchizedek and the King of Sodom to dig up a deeper understanding Hebrews 7 in who is really owed all the glory.

  • Hebrews Chapter 8

“What if Jesus doesn't come through? Maybe I need a backup plan...?” Have you thought these things?

In Hebrews Chapter 8 we are confronted with the layering of idols we find in our lives. We have things we may not openly worship, however, we place them there and assign power to those things to determine security in our lives. The Original Audience of the book of Hebrews was in this struggle where they considered going back to giving sacrifices at the Temple “just in case” Jesus’ sacrifice didn’t “pay it all” and then have the power to change their lives.

It may be easy for us to judge them but we do the same when we place our faith in other things “just in case” Jesus doesn’t come through. Perhaps we need to also start changing the way we expect Jesus to “come through” in our lives.

  • Hebrews Chapter 9 / Part 1

In Hebrews Chapter 9 we journey into the Temple courts and pass into the Holy Place which is arranged with objects such as the lamp stand, the table of bread and altar of incense. This is not simply the arrangement of furniture in a room but an arrangement of our hearts. Do we stop to seek God’s presence and acknowledge He is with us in our everyday?
